Oblate Youth Ministries
MUSIC MINISTER

Oblate Youth Ministries has a “Mission to Youth” – reaching out to the young people and
teachers and parents of the Greater St. Albert School Division and area.
The motto of Oblate Youth Ministries is: Youth are the future (of the Church) … NOW!
The slogan of Oblate Youth Ministries is: Wherever you go, go with God.
Whenever you go, go make a difference.
The focus of Oblate Youth Ministries is: to encourage and empower “youth ministering
to youth” in the formation and training of Christian leadership and evangelization.
(However, even though many of the young people and adults with whom we work
go to a Catholic School, they have little or no connection to the faith / parish
Community. Hence, a new and emerging initiative of Oblate Youth Ministries is
“to build Church where there is no building”.)
Oblate Youth Ministries is a strong advocate and catalyst for the relationship between
the SCHOOL, the PARISH and the HOME.

In this context and challenge Oblate Youth Ministries seeks a MUSIC MINISTER

Musical skills required: a strong (and comfortable) background in music
  • (preferably) can read music
  • can (comfortably) play an instrument (preferably a guitar, simply because it is most versatile in our ministries to youth)
  • comfortable in leading the music ministry, yet able to follow the lead of others
  • can learn songs easily
  • can teach new songs to others – (able to take a “motley crew” of young people and get them excited to sing songs “to the Lord”)
  • open to learn -- to teach -- to sing a variety of liturgical and secular songs
  • open to collaborate with other musicians of varying musical skills
Other overall disposition / attitude:
  • A “team player” – able to plan and work with others
  • Positive and supportive – open to new ideas and approaches in ministry
  • Actively living the “journey of faith”, with a desire to “know the Lord”.
  • A positive role model for young people
Living accommodations (may) also be available, along with a (reasonable) stipend.
Length of time: Sept / 2008 – June / 2009
